The deep-sea mooring system, also known as the deep-sea submersible buoy system, is mainly composed of measuring instruments, mooring system and acoustic communication system. 1) The measuring instruments consist of 2 ADCPs, multiple CTDs, some DVSs and several sensors. 2) The mooring system consists of 1 main float, radio beacon and receiver, flash beacon, multiple solid floating balls, several glass floating balls, 3 acoustic releasing devices, 1 acoustic release parallel mechanism, Kevlar cable with protective jacket, 2 rotating rings, stainless steel shackle, stainless steel anchor chain, gravity anchor and so on. 3) The acoustic communication system consists of a pair of acoustic communication machines and a set of underwater battery compartments. |
In addition, a complete set of mooring system can be configured from top to bottom: large floating balls, ADCP, small floating balls, various chemical sensors, sediment traps, acoustic release transponders, and more. The optional configurations are as follows: Basic configuration: ADCP, CTD, pressure gauge, current meter, acoustic communicator, acoustic release device, floating ball, rotary ring, anchor tether, weight, etc. Equipped with instrument: sediment trap, turbidimeter, PH, dissolved oxygen, CO2, CH4, fluorescence chlorophyll, sensor, etc. |
The major functions are: 1) The system adopts a single-point tension anchor system, which is suitable for long-term observation in the water depth of 1500~6000m; 2) Two ADCPs can be installed on the main float; One unit measures the stratified vertical current profile from the main float up to the surface; the other measures the stratified vertical current profile about 500m down from the main floating ball. 3) Multiple CTDs can be configured on the mooring line to measure sea water temperature, salinity and pressure of the concerned water layer. Multiple temperature sensors can be equipped on the mooring line, to intensively measure the seawater temperature of the concerned water layer. Multiple DVSs can be installed on the mooring line to measure single-point current parameters (e.g. turbulence parameters) of the concerned water layer. 4) All the measuring instruments are powered by underwater battery, and the long-term and continuous measurement is carried out in self-contained way. 5) The main float is equipped with an acoustic communicator underwater vehicle, which is integrated with two ADCPs to communicate acoustically with communicator topside vehicle places on the scientific survey ship, transmitting data from two 75KHz ADCPs to the scientific survey ship. |
