The construction of a national level marine research base will be completed next year

According to the East China Sea Institute of Oceanography in Fujian Province, the national level marine research base project is expected to be capped next year and will be fully put into use and operation in 2022. The project will establish the country's first large-scale national level high-level talent innovation and entrepreneurship base related to the sea, as well as "academician workstations" and "postdoctoral mobile workstations".

On May 15, 2019, the project started construction in Fuzhou High tech Zone. The first phase of the project has an investment of 372 million yuan and a construction area of 67646 square meters, including 45951 square meters of above ground construction area and 21695 square meters of underground construction area. It is reported that the base will be equipped with advanced experimental instruments and equipment, create a high-quality and efficient sharing platform, implement a relaxed and free project cooperation model and equity incentive mechanism, and provide long-term residency for domestic and foreign experts and scholars in the field of marine high-tech industry, marine new materials, marine intelligence, coastal ecological restoration, environmental automatic monitoring, marine carbon sink and other high-end marine scientific research and industrialization promotion, providing a demonstration for the application and achievement transformation of marine technology nationwide.

Experts in fields such as marine ecology, engineering equipment, intelligence, power storage, automatic monitoring, and new materials related to the sea have all expressed their intention to settle in national level marine research bases in different forms. Yan Song, president of Fujian East China Sea Oceanographic Research Institute, said that he planned to take the existing State Key Laboratory, Fujian expert service base, Fujian talent station and other advantageous platforms as the public supporting sharing of the base, and support angel investment for each expert team to ensure the fund needs of the expert team in the achievement transformation. In addition, the base will also be equipped with academic exchange centers, large-scale expert activity centers, and marine science and technology exhibition halls.
